Name: The Bike Centre
Location: Student Life Centre 0101
Established: 1995

Warmer weather calls for more bikes on the road. If your two-wheeler needs a fine tune-up, or if you’re in the market for a new set of wheels, the Bike Centre has got you covered!

Established in 1995, this service provides:

  • affordable resources you can use to fix up your bike
  • advice and even assistance with repairs
  • used bike parts for sale
  • rental bike program
  • bi-annual bike auction

When you visit the Bike Centre, you can expect to be warmly greeted by one of their volunteers who keep the shop open, like Harold Lee, a third-year student at Waterloo and a general volunteer of the service

“I decided to volunteer with the Bike Centre when I bought my bike at the bike auction,” Lee shared, “[The volunteer manager] invited me to join. One of the new things she’s trying to do this term is organize volunteer socials for us [to get to know one another better].

You can drop by and tune up your bike, or see what used parts they have for sale.

Where do they get these used parts, you might ask?

“One of my favourite parts about volunteering for the Bike Centre is getting to remove all the abandoned bikes across campus,” said Lee. “That’s how we get the used parts that we put up for sale - by taking apart the abandoned bikes.”

Aside from holding office hours during the term, their committed volunteers dedicate their time working on a project bike, which they will later sell at the bike auctions that occur during the spring and fall terms.

If you’re looking to get involved with the Bike Centre, applications for executive and volunteer positions open at the end of every term on Leads.
