4 Easy Steps to Start a Club

If you’re looking for a way to get involved with your passions on campus, you are bound to find something that sparks your interest with over 200 clubs and societies underneath the Clubs Listing. Or, you can check out Clubs and Societies Days!

However, if you can’t find what you’re looking for and you have a brand new idea, starting a club is as easy as one, two, three (and four).

Step 1: Setting the Stage for Your Club

Focus on the specific aspect of your club. Is your idea completely new? If so, there should be no roadblocks when it comes to pitching your club.

There may be instances where the unique purpose of your club overlaps with the goals of an already existing one. In this case, you might have the opportunity to become an affiliate of the existing group and benefit from being a part of their predisposed community!

Step 2: Take a Peek at the Feds Club Manual

Get a sense of what the Clubs system is like and what it means through the Feds Club Manual.

Step 3: Start Your Constitution

It’s not as terrifying as it sounds! Essentially, your constitution is the framework for the club, which acts as a guide for how your club should run.

To make life easier for you, Feds has included a fill-in-the-blank template on their Starting a Club page. Here you will find all the requirements laid out for you: the purpose of your club, executive structure, affiliations, elections, etc. Now, it’s up to you to flair up the constitution with what makes your club unique.

Step 4: Apply for Your Club!

Log into the Clubs Admin page to start a new application. Some sections may sound similar to your constitution; you can use your constitution as a stepping-stone to help you complete the rest of the application.

While the entire application is important, one thing to highlight is the cover letter. This is how you will introduce your club to the Internal Administration Committee for approval. It gives them a background of what your club will comprise of and why it’s important for the student community. Aside from that, remember to fill everything out or you won’t be able to move forward!

Voila! Once you follow all these steps you have successfully applied to start a club with Feds. Now, you just need to wait and hear back from the Internal Administration Committee. Best of luck, Warriors!
